translational research

The Innovation Center offers an ideal setting in which to bring the latest findings to the bedside through innovative practices and scientific rigor. Three primary advantages have jumpstarted our journey toward becoming a destination for translation:

  1. Access to diverse patient populations across six inpatient and over 50 outpatient community-based settings;

  2. A cadre of PhD prepared research professionals supported by a highly trained staff with broad experience in conducting research in clinical settings; and

  3. A commitment to conducting research that brings data to bear upon the health care system and clinical practice in a way that maximizes health outcomes for a specific setting and population.

Some of our recent projects include:

  • Testing the clinical feasibility of implementing national guidelines for the maintenance of normothermia in the perioperative setting, and exploring RN resistance to the use of active warming devices.

  • Testing the effect of noise-reducing interventions in the hospital setting on patient satisfaction with the care experience.

  • Predicting the "surge-capacity" of the Kettering Health Network in a cataclysmic event such as a terrorist attack or major natural disaster.
