imaging science
Innovation in medical imaging has been a cornerstone of the Kettering Health Network since 1976, when the Kettering Medical Center installed the Dayton region's first whole-body, computer-assisted tomography (CAT) scanner. The Imaging Science branch of the Innovation Center builds on this tradition through advanced imaging research driven by the needs of the Dayton area patient population. Our research findings have been used throughout the Kettering Health Network's hospitals, as well as the tri-state region, to improve image quality, therapy outcomes and patient safety.
Current research initiatives include:
- Advancing the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injury
- Imaging methods to monitor tumor response to chemo- and radiation-therapy
- Improving the understanding of fatigue and its effects on military and health care personnel
- Brain mapping of specific neurological disorder
- Reducing motion blur in medical images using advanced mathematical computation
Scientists in the Imaging Science division hold academic affiliations and teaching duties at a number of universities throughout the country. Our work is featured in international conferences and scientific journals. What's more, our partnerships with major industry players, such as Siemens Medical Solutions and General Electric Healthcare, have enabled us to offer dedicated research imaging scanners at our main campus. Our ability to offer research-intensive imaging capacity in a community hospital environment sets us apart in the Miami Valley region.
