Suzanne Coleman, PhD, RNC-OB, CCRA, Director, Innovation Center
As director of the Innovation Center, Suzanne brings over 18 years experience working with a broad range of research collaborators including, industry, government and academic partners. She has extensive experience in protocol development, regulatory compliance, and contract negotiations. Under her direction the past fours years the research endeavors at Kettering Health Network have expanded beyond industry sponsored trials to recently include imaging science, translational research, and neuroscience research. As a registered nurse by background with a focus in obstetrics, much of her research has examined complications of high-risk pregnancies where she has co-authored over 37 articles or textbook chapters in peer-reviewed publications. She is a frequent lecturer at Kettering College of Medical Arts and presenter at national conferences. Suzanne holds three certifications: inpatient obstetrics, clinical research associate, and clinical research contract professional. She is a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals, Drug Information Association, First Clinical Research, and PRIM&R.
Jason Parker, PhD, Senior Scientist, Innovation Center
Jason joined the Innovation Center as Senior Scientist in 2008. He received his B.S. in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Ph.D. in Medical Physics from the University of Florida. His research expertise lies in the development and application of medical imaging modalities to current clinical problems, with an emphasis on magnetic resonance imaging techniques. He has been an author on more than 20 scientific papers and publications, and is active in the medical imaging community as a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), and the Ohio-River Branch of the AAPM. Jason also teaches courses in medical imaging at Wright State University, creating a strong connection between the Innovation Center and the Dayton area's next generation of scientists.
Douglas Lehrer, MD
Dr. Lehrer is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Wright State University (WSU) Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio and Principal Investigator for the Boonshoft Schizophrenia Center at Wallace-Kettering Neuroscience Institute (WKNI), part of the Innovation Center at Kettering Health Network. There he directs a brain-imaging research program devoted to the study of schizophrenia, with emphasis on characterizing the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, and identifying predictive biomarkers of treatment response. He is presently establishing a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) laboratory at WKNI to study predictive neuroimaging biomarkers of response to repetitive TMS in neuroleptic-refractory schizophrenics.
He received his degrees in Pharmacy and Medicine at the University of Cincinnati where he also completed his psychiatry residency. He spent his first five years of practice in the United States Air Force in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Dayton, Ohio, followed by seven years of service in the Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH) as both Chief Medical Officer and Forensic Medical Director at Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare, and the Clinical Director of the ODMH Forensic Product Line. He continues to provide expert psychiatric consultation to Courts throughout Ohio.
Faye E. Hager, BSN, RN, Manager, Grants Administration
Faye is currently the Manager, Grants Administration, for the Innovation Center at Kettering Health Network. Her responsibilities include pre and post award grant management for the Kettering Health Network, with special attention to compliance in financial management of clinical trials. Faye holds a BSN from Wright State University and is a registered nurse. With more than 12 years experience as a clinical research coordinator she brings extensive knowledge of study operations to the Innovation Center. Over the past five years her focus includes management of the team of clinical research coordinators in the Office of Research as well as financial tracking and reimbursement for both industry sponsored and investigator-initiated studies. She is a member of the Society of Clinical Research Associates.
Gordon Simmons, BS, CCRP
Gordon is a Regulatory Documentation Specialist for the Innovation Center. In his role, he supports study coordinators and physicians by preparing appropriate documents for submission to research approval authorities. Gordon has served Kettering Medical Center in various capacities for over 15 years and recently received certification as a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP).
Devon Berry, PhD, RN, Consultant, Innovation Center
Devon has worked as a research consultant for the Kettering Health Network since 2004. During this time he has helped the Network increase both the volume and scientific rigor of its clinically-based research. His work has led to publications and presentations at regional, national, and international presentations for KHN nurses. He joined the Innovation Center in 2008. In this role he focuses on special projects including the development of translational studies, liaising with the Nursing Research Council, and facilitating Network-wide projects. He received his Master of Science in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington. As an assistant professor at the University of Cincinnati, he was recently selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar. This funding supports his ongoing program of research in the area of religiosity and mental health outcomes.
